The Art of the Non-Apology Apology

Senator Dick Durbin has "apologized" for his remarks comparing the US troops with Nazis, Soviet gulag operators, and Pol Pot killers.

Actually, he never offered remorse over his words. He only apologized "if" anyone was offended. Obviously, a lot of people were offended. Durbin chose to say "if" instead of "that" as his qualifier.

He specifically targeted the people who found it offensive. What about the people who believe in his comparison? What about Durbin himself? He never took back his words.

The Dems never rushed to condemn Durbin. They think the same way he does. Durbin still needs to go, but it requires Republicans to keep that spine straight.
