When a Vacation is not a Vacation

Pundits and politicians are slobbering all over themselves as they breathlessly report on President Bush's "record-long" vacation. They can't believe that he takes the job so lightly that he would stay away for so long.

First of all, do you really think Pelosi or Kennedy are sitting in the capitol rotunda at this hour because the work of the American people must be done?

Secondly, do you really think that Bush is sitting on the couch with the remote all day? His staff goes with him to Crawford. He has daily meetings. He hosts other world leaders. He acts on intelligence and directs the military.

The big difference? Bush is in a different location. It's no secret that the primped and pampered press corps hates Crawford. There are no elitist functions. No trendy hotspots to see and be seen. They hate Texas. It's so...conservative.

The pundits also hate the idea of Americans seeing video of Bush clearing brush, chopping wood, and simply looking rugged. They know men admire a guy who gets his hands dirty. They know women swoon for a hard-workin' man.

They hate that Bush gets things done. Whether on the ranch or in Iraq, Bush simply gets things done.
