A Little Dose of Media Bias

I found this gem on the Herald (Sharon, PA) web site. I just thought I'd share.

Bush refuses relief
By Cary Snyder
Herald Staff Writer

President Bush may have single-handedly put several hundred local steelworkers out of a job Friday when he refused to impose a quota on the surge of Chinese pipe imports.

I'm not sure how much more bias Snyder could show, but this sentence is chock full of leftist babbling. Here's what Snyder "forgot" to consider:

- The mills are run poorly. Perhaps they have bad management and do not do well keeping the company in the black. The owners lack vision. They treat their employees poorly.
- EPA regulations are constraining the mills. The burdensome regs make it financially impossible to upgrade the sites. The government actually makes it cheaper to run an inefficient shop than to upgrade under the regs.
- The unions are inefficient and costly. With healthcare always on the rise, many companies (i.e. Ford and GM) are simply geting swamped by the cost burden they carry. If they want to renegotiate the costs, the unions threaten to shut down the plant. So, by shouldering the heavy costs, the plant shuts down, anyway.

Clearly, these three options would be major reasons that would "put several hundred local steelworkers out of a job." You would have to be either an incredibly incompetent or unbeliveably biased reporter to overlook them and claim that Bush may have "single-handedly" put workers on the street.

I would bet Snyder has talent, so that leaves one option.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, Everyone!!!

May the joy and the peace of the season fill your homes and may Christ's blessings fill your hearts.

"...the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.'" Luke 2: 10-12

Happy Birthday, Jesus!

What if Santa Claus Became a Socialist?

Instead of giving freely, as good, old Saint Nick would, a liberal Santa would destroy the hopes and dreams of children everywhere. After all, one must be concerned about the common good, right? Take from the rich, and give to the poor. No one should have too much - that simply isn't fair. And socialism is based upon the desire for everyone to be treated fairly, regardless of whether they earned that right or not.

Socialist Santa would break into houses with the power of the Federal government and confiscate toys from children.

- If their parents made more than $30,000 per year, he'd take 20-40% of their toys.
- If their parents made more than $50,000 per year, he'd take 30-50% of their toys.
- If their parents made more than $80,000 per year, he'd take 40-60% of their toys.
- If their parents made more that $100,000 per year, he'd take 50-80% of their toys.

Of course, Santa would take public transportation and deliver toys at the slowest possible rate to the poor and needy. Come to think of it, he'd hire the labor unions, at incredible cost, to deliver the presents. Unfortunately, this would be the slowest, most inefficient way possible. To pay off the massive debt, Santa would have to sell most of the toys, but the cost would be too high for the poor to afford them. Isn't that the socialist way?

Instead of a season of joy, it would be a season of misery. Just like in France...all the time.

The Most Depressing Time of the Year - For Libs

I'd hate to be a liberal democrat this time of the year. Actually, I'd hate to be a liberal democrat ever.

The Christmas season is in full swing. Despite the liberals' efforts to squash Christmas, the public love to embrace this holiday. No matter how much libs hate to admit it, the holiday is truly a Holy Day as we recognize and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ (hence, Christ-mas). Our nation was founded by people with strong Christian beliefs. Those beliefs permeate our society - and the libs are tormented by it.

People are generally happier. People are giving and receiving presents. People are generally more patient. Liberals always wake up angry, waiting to be offended yet another day. They look for reasons to hate life - especially American life. They search for injustice, and if they can't find any, they make it up.

The economy is roaring. The Fed has been slowly raising rates to keep inflation in check. The economy is hot. Jobs are being created, people are buying and selling, and Federal taxation is lower. There is no sign of the economy slowing down. Liberals hate capitalism, and like it or not, the Christmas season is chock full of capitalism. They have to endure happy people buying carloads of gifts. And worse - they have to witness joyful people cheerfully giving to that ostracized Christian group, the Salvation Army.

One of my favorite bumper stickers of all time said, "Annoy a liberal: work hard and be happy". That pretty much sums up their mindset, and it is only amplified this time of year.

Democrat Wish List

During this Christmas...err...winter season, be sure to think about your democrat friends and neighbors. They have a huge wish list to help return them to power. I know that I'll be working extra hard to make sure they get nothing...or better yet - coal! Clean, efficient coal.

Dem Wish List
- More US troops killed in Iraq (helps that retreat strategy)
- As many aborted babies as possible
- Any babies that survive Planned Parenthood and NARAL should be impoverished and reliant on the government
- The weather to be too cold or too hot (all from "global warming" - right?)
- Gas prices as high as possible
- Terrorists freed from Gitmo and all secret prisons
- More "torture" stories that slander our troops
- More beheadings (so Dems can blame terrorism on our troops)
- No WMD found in 2006 (please, please, please)
- The economy tanking
- More hurricanes (Bush makes them happen, you know?)
- Iraq elections failing and the country falling apart
- Iran to get nuclear weapons
- Bin Laden et. al. to remain in hiding
- Al Qaida to become larger and stronger

There's likely a lot more, but let's not appear too greedy, okay?

So, what is the one thing these "wishes" have in common? They are all anti-America. They all harm America. The Dems have worked so hard in their hatred of Bush and capitalism that they only do well at the ballot box when America is hurt.

I'm sure you traditional, conservative Dems are proud of the leaders of your party...

Retailers' Rejection of Christmas

They want your money, but they don't want your Savior. Retailers are once again dumping the "C" word during the holiday shopping season. Thankfully, many citizens and groups are taking a stand. USA Today has taken notice:
Chains also may be responding to a push by groups such as The Catholic League and American Family Association (AFA) against a generic "winter holiday."

The AFA cited 10 retailers (Kroger, Dell, Target, OfficeMax, Walgreens, Sears, Staples, Lowe's, J.C. Penney and Best Buy) for omitting Christmas in ads. It urges shoppers to go where Christmas is recognized.

"If you are going to make your earnings on the year because of Christmas, why should you be ashamed to call it Christmas?" asks AFA President Tim Wildmon. "People don't buy Thanksgiving gifts."

Lowe's got special note for hanging "holiday tree" banners on lots at its 1,175 stores. It pulled them after complaints. "We wanted to call a Christmas tree what it is," says spokeswoman Chris Ahearn.

The Catholic League says it scored a victory when it pushed Wal-Mart to have a Christmas category on its website, which had Kwanzaa and Hanukkah gift sections.
Frankly, I'm surprised that Wal-Mart put itself in the crosshairs. It is traditionally true to American heritage and core values. I am pleased to see that it has reversed course.

Sadly, many of the stores listed are major donors to the GOP - and they still cower to political correctness. Target, Walgreens, Sears, Staples, Dell, and JC Penney are consistently among the top donors in their industries.

If you are going to spend your money this Christmas season, I also encourage you to patron stores who aren't afraid of ACLU and political correctness.

EDIT: A quick check of Lowe's web site brought some disappointing results. If you want to find Christmas decorations, they are under a category lamely named "Holiday Living."

Home Depot is no better...perhaps worse. Its site lists a ho-hum "Holiday Page" that has plenty of "holiday trees." Just in time for your New Year's Tree? Good grief!

Murtha Dumps on the Troops

We now know, thanks to Howard Fineman, that Rep. John Murtha's press conference calling for withdrawal from Iraq was just a stunt devised with Nancy Pelosi. He was once again dumping on the administration and the war in Iraq. This man has never been a hawk.

Now Murtha is dumping on the troops. Despite how the dems always say they support the troops, they just can't help themselves when they are in front of a microphone.

Murtha announced yesterday that the Army is "broken, worn out" and "living hand to mouth." Well, the Army isn't a building. It isn't a weapon. It's troops!

We have the greatest military in the history of the world. We have the best training, the best technology, and the strongest will to fight because our troops know all about sacrificing for freedom.

Murtha has said he doesn't want another Vietnam-style loss. Well, as a decorated Vietnam veteran, he should know that when politicians turn on the troops and the mission, the enemy is emboldened. We had Vietnam won in 1968, but the angry left (including the pols) demoralized our troops and uplifted the enemies. The war slogged on until we pulled out years later.

Shame on you, Rep. Murtha. You are demoralizing our troops and aiding the enemy. You, sir, are the cause of Vietnam-style quagmires.
